MEIZU Partners with Trustonic to Simplify Consumers’ Digital Lives and Enable Mobile Payment Services on Smart Devices

Collaboration provides security platform for innovative mobile payment services

LONDON, UK – February 12, 2015: Trustonic, the leading provider of Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) for smart devices, today announced a collaboration with Meizu, a global leader in innovation and design. MEIZU will use the Trustonic TEE to deliver a trusted platform on which service providers can enrich, simplify and expand user experiences.

The partnership begins with the MEIZU MX4 Pro devices which are available now online and from retail channels in China. Through Trustonic’s market proven TEE technology, which has already been deployed in over 400 million smart connected devices, MEIZU MX 4 Pro users will be assured of hardware isolation during fingerprint matching and secure storage of their biometric templates. Thus, this state-of-the-art technology increases the confidence of end users and payment providers that transaction approvals are genuine.

By integrating a higher level of trust in the MX 4 Pro Devices, Trustonic’s TEE protects Meizu’s MX Touch© fingerprint authentication feature and mPay© platform support for major mobile commerce services such as Alipay and Wechat Pay, due to be launched later this year.

Furthermore, Trustonic’s open TEE platform, supporting GlobalPlatform standards, makes it easy and simple for service providers and developers to add trust-enhanced services and deploy them over the air to MEIZU devices to enable content protection services for any content on any screen, secure enterprise applications in a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) world, and by supporting new and emerging m-commerce services.

Ben Cade, CEO of Trustonic, said: “Trustonic’s partnership with MEIZU is underpinned by the need for simpler, quicker and safer device experiences that enhance the digital lives of users.  Security needs to be simple and effective, in any context.  As users and service providers alike start to adopt biometric authentication to access mobile applications and services, the need to ensure secure storage and transactions is clear. Trustonic’s widely deployed TEE technology, coupled with MEIZU’s industry leading design and manufacturing expertise, will provide a highly trusted security solution on mobile devices for biometric authentication and simplifies the way MEIZU consumers use their devices, shop and work.”

Liang Dongming, CTO of MEIZU, said: “Cooperating with Trustonic fills the blank of the fingerprint recognition and safety payment for Chinese smartphones. Meizu, with the class leading fingerprint identification in Android, opens a new chapter to solve the problem of safety payment with Trustonic.”

About TEE

The Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) is a secure area that resides in the application processor of an electronic device.  Separated by hardware from the main operating system, the TEE enables the secure storage and processing of sensitive applications.  The TEE enables application developers to deliver a new breed of services, those enhanced by trust. With the TEE, services in the device, operating between the device and the user, and from the device to the cloud, can be protected. This includes interactions with touchscreens, displays and fingerprint sensors.
